The photographic series Essentials won second prize in the South American "FotoMigración: Migration through other lenses", organized by the IOM Regional Office for South America. Its author is Anita Pouchard Serra.

Essentials

To face the impact of social isolation due to COVID-19, between March and September 2020, migrant workers in some quarters of Buenos Aires, Argentina, survived by means of self-organisation and solidarity. In the context of an economy with many challenges, the pandemic has driven immigrant communities —especially those from Peru, the Plurinational State of Bolivia and Paraguay— to difficult and precarious situations. 
Community organisations, such as Migrar no es Delito and Frente de Organizaciones en Lucha (FOL), faced the crisis through collective and solidarity actions in connection with health care, housing and food. To tell this story, the Esenciales series focuses on the lives of Ana, Juana, Andrea, Patricia and Susana, five women migrant leaders from the neighbourhood of Padre Rodolfo Ricciardelli in Bajo Flores, Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
