The International Migration Review Forum (IMRF or Forum) is the primary global intergovernmental platform where Member States can discuss and showcase progress achieved in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM). In efforts to support Member States, civil society and other relevant stakeholders towards the IMRF, the United Nations Regional Network on Migration for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNNM-LAC) organized a regional multistakeholder webinars series throughout March and April 2022. These webinars, which replicated the structure of the global dialogues facilitated by the United Nations Network on Migration Secretariat, offered an open, inclusive space with a regional focus to discuss approaches to achieving a rights-based migration for the benefit of all in compliance with the guidelines of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They were also designed to help Member States, civil society and other stakeholders prepare for the Forum's roundtables and policy debate.

Round Table 1: “Drivers and regular pathways”

The first session of this regional multistakeholder webinar series supports States, civil society and other stakeholders in preparation for the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF). The series provides an open and inclusive space to discuss progress and various approaches in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) at the regional level.

This session of this regional webinars series offered a space to discuss progress in the implementation of GCM objectives 2, 5, 6, 12 and 18. Objective 2, focused on minimizing the adverse drivers of migration, is an area where many countries face challenges. Objectives 5 and 12 focus on ensuring that people can migrate through regular pathways and with predictable procedures. Objectives 6 and 18 cover key issues related to ethical recruitment and decent work as well as the development and recognition of the skills of migrant workers.

Round Table 2: “Border governance, saving lives and sustainable reintegration”

The second session of this regional multistakeholder webinar series supports States, civil society and other stakeholders in preparation for the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF). The series provides an open and inclusive space to discuss progress and various approaches in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) at the regional level.

This session of this regional webinars series offered a space to discuss progress in the implementation of GCM objectives 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 21. This round table seeks to discuss human rights-based and action-oriented approaches, whose priority is to save lives, combat smuggling in migrants, eradicate human trafficking, guarantee access to documentation, promote alternatives to immigration detention, manage borders in an integrated manner and facilitate the voluntary return and reintegration of migrants. Addressing these challenges implies the coordination of responses for the prevention and protection against transnational crime, violence, abuse, and exploitation, and by promoting safe and dignified sustainable return and reintegration of migrants.

The third session of this regional multistakeholder webinar series supports States, civil society and other stakeholders in preparation for the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF). The series provides an open and inclusive space to discuss progress and various approaches in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) at the regional level.

This session of this regional webinars series offered a space to discuss progress in the implementation of GCM objectives 14, 15, 16, 19, 20 and 22. Regularization and socioeconomic integration of migrants reduce their vulnerability and enhance their contribution to the sustainable development of their communities of origin, transit, and destination. Migrants and diasporas in Latin America and the Caribbean have great human, social, cultural, economic, and financial capital that must be recognized to realize their potential as agents of change.
