OBJECTIVE 3 - INFORMATION PROVISION
Provide adequate and timely information at all stages of migration
“Accurately informing and actively engaging migrants at all stages of their journey is key to ensuring safe, orderly, and regular migration”.
Migrants need access to timely and accurate information to reduce risks and take informed decisions throughout the process, including at the country of origin, transit, country of first asylum and country of destination.
This information includes human rights and fundamental freedoms, appropriate protection and assistance (including access to basic services and access to justice to file complaints about rights violations), options and pathways for regular migration, and possibilities for return.
Without knowledge about country-specific immigration laws and policies, visa requirements, work and residence permits, living costs and conditions, national laws and obligations and registration with authorities, migrants can easily fall into irregular or unsafe situations.
Facilitating migrants’ access to information requires a people-centered approach to assess what needs exist. Migrant communities are diverse and outreach needs to take into account factors such as age, language, gender, and education level. Successful implementation requires the collaboration of multiple partners from civil society, migrant groups, and local governments.
