OBJECTIVE 1 - DATA

Objetive 1 Collect and utilize accurate and disaggregated data as a basis for evidence-based policies

The more data on migration we have, the better we can serve people and advance towards sustainable development.

Migration data that is poor or difficult to access and understand makes it challenging for decision-makers around the world to create sensitive migration policy. Low-quality information can also distort public debate on migration, erasing migrant contributions. For example, systematic data are lacking on migrants’ contribution to the economic growth of receiving countries across industries.

Disaggregated data (data that can be separated and compared by categories like age, sex, migratory status, and many others) also allows us to help certain groups in vulnerable situations like women and children, LGBTQ+ migrants etc.

The SDGs create a need for a greater quantity and quality of migration data. This is the case across migration issue areas, including human trafficking, smuggling, labour migration and many more.

Better data on different dimensions of migrants’ situations allows for a better understanding of migrants’ living conditions and how migration impacts health, income, education, and other areas.
