Improving the welfare of child-victims of human trafficking in Tobago.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is making significant strides in its attempts to eliminate human trafficking. According to the US Department of State, this includes finalizing and implementing new Standard Operating Procedures for victim referral and care, opening a government-funded and government-operated shelter for female child trafficking victims, providing the first government shelters for adult trafficking victims, and increasing the size of the Counter-Trafficking Unit (CTU).
IOM works closely with the Government to support its efforts. Recently, the Organization offered training in protection and rights-based approaches, and donated laptops and other essential items, with the support of USAID.
